Theme song for Summer - Washed Out

Best track I've come across in awhile, a must download. The warm, melodic, minimal style of Washed Out makes for the ultimate in relaxing beach noise. Grab I Feel It All Around, below and visit his myspace page for other tracks. Hopefully we won't have to wait till SXSW to catch this guy live. GvB and Pitchfork have been pushing these tracks so look for good things for Washed Out in the future.

F#CK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Placebo Cancelled at La Zona Rosa Austin

PLACEBO POSTPONE NORTH AMERICAN TOUR
17.08.2009
PLACEBO have today announced they have been forced to postpone their
forthcoming tour of North America after their lead singer, Brian Molko,
collapsed on stage at Summer Sonic Festival in Osaka, Japan.
Brian had picked up a virus in Asia which, coupled with jet lag and exhaustion,
caused the problem after the first song.

Brian is now back home in London recovering, but has been ordered by his
doctors to take a 6 week long period of rest. Regrettably therefore, the
band and management have no option but to postpone the forthcoming North
American tour.

Riverman Management commented, "This is pretty
devastating for everyone - we've only ever cancelled 3 shows in
Placebo's 14 year history, however Brian's health is paramount. Our
sincere apologies go out to Placebo's loyal American fans who have
waited a long time to see the band. We will try and do everything to
re-arrange the dates as soon as possible".

The band have had an intensive worldwide schedule this year, promoting
their 6th studio album 'Battle for the Sun', this includes 24 high
profile festival performances over the summer, an unprecedented amount
for any band in 2009.

Tickets can be refunded at the point of purchase.

Please keep checking PLACEBOWORLD.co.uk for any additional information.

Bad Veins - Self titled album out now - Emo's August 28th

Bad Veins are a Cincinnati duo who have been around for awhile but just released their first full length album. Gold and Warm, The Lie, and The Ending, are all incredible tracks. Their sound is honest, melodic indie rock/pop. Great for sitting in traffic or people watching at the airport. I prefer the live versions (with the exception of The Lie)I've posted for download but the video will give a you a great idea of what these guys are all about.

Florence and the Machine

Another great English girl with soul, this one isn't as fucked up as some and not as poppy as others. Her new album Lungs is out in Europe and all over the blogs. Hopefully this one will last and continue to pump out her brand of Soul infused rock.

Another Time, Another Place..... Ghostland Observatory's Aaron Behrens is playing a solo set Tuesday July 21 @ Beauty Bar Austin

UPDATED REVIEW AND VIDEO

I caught Aaron walking into Beauty Bar last night by chance before his set, asked him what we were going to expect from him and was told we were in store for an acoustic country/blues set of tracks he loves to sing but doesn't always get to play live. Talking to Aaron you realize he's not just the Ghostland Observatory Electro-Rocker but he's a Texan and country. Born in San Saba his rural roots are deep and for all of us Texas natives we too share a part of us that enjoys simple sometimes emotional folk music on some level. He's a very talented vocalist and showed his range through about an eight song set of tracks that first perplexed then engaged a crowded Beauty Bar lounge. Many folks like myself were not sure what we were walking into but all left very happy we made a very rare solo show by Austin's most loved frontman. A major shift from Whitewater Amphitheater's laser electro Ghostland Weekend fest of only a few days prior. But that's also Ghostland Observatory, Aaron and Thomas are down to Earth normal family men. We only usually see them as their onstage personas. Show was great see for yourself...

Still recovering from this weekend's Ghostland New Braunfels Fest? Well buck up and get to Beauty Bar Tuesday for Aaron's solo set. Should be interesting to say the least. I don't have any other details about if he has new material or what but I'll try to add a review to this post as an update.

Dos Equis XX Castle Party - Z-Trip - Rediculous

If you were lucky like me and were in the last herd to be let in, or snuck through the woods and barbwire (my friend was punctured) that party was really good times. Sorry to all of those who showed up early, were told to "wait" and then told to leave that's bullshit and poor management. However for everyone else who made it we had a great time, a fucking castle first of all and then plenty of XX, food, waterslide, ninjas, Z-Trip, Bungee trampoline thing, and I ate worms and a grasshopper. Definitely the best Wednesday night that I can remember in a while.

Camera Obscura- Antone's

Camera Obscura the Scottish indie poppers were at Antone's last night. They opened with the title track off their new album My Maudlin Career, and proceeded to be pretty slow and melancholic but they did finish strong. All in all a good show, but definetly should of gone to Santogold at Stubbs.

Multi-Curious Weekend

Multi Genre weekend coming up. Dance Party Friday @ Mohawk The Field and The Juan Maclean will be stopping by. I've recently come to love The Field and especially one track off his new album Yesterday and Today and on top of that there is a Foals remix which actually turned me on to this Swedish minimilist in the first place. Download it and go see them.

Post-Rock Saturday also @ Mohawk (Mohawk is doing everybody check out their calendar this summer) with San Marcos' This Will Destroy You, if you are into Explosions in the Sky these guys are for you. I will be at this show so will try to take some decent video.

Also Saturday Shoegaze at the Scoot Inn with Austin's Experimental Aircraft.

The Field - The More That I Do (Foals Remix)

This Will Destroy You - The World is Our

Manchester Orchestra- Emo's

Well I drug my tired ass up to Emo's Tuesday night for a wonderful show by Manchester Orchestra. Too bad it was right after a long weekend as it was not as enjoyable as it should of been for me. However, they were absolutly amazing and I'm so happy I made it. Their live presence and a near sell-out crowd made for a great experience. Put them on your must see list

You Were an Accident.......Ponytail, Harlem @ RED 7

Ponytail are a class project that caught on and have a sound all their own. They were voted best live band in Baltimore in 07 quite a feat for anyone who was at the Dan Deacon show at Emo's last month. But they have the same individuality that seems to emanate from that Yankee town. They play Red 7 Wednesday night with Austin imports Harlem.

Ponytail - Celebrate the Body Electric (It Came from an Angel)

MATT and KIM - MAJOR LAZER (Diplo and Switch)- A-TRAK - JULY 10th

UPDATE- GO TO HOMEPAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SHOW IS AT SPEAKEASY

Well Shit in the middle of writing this I went to the Bacardi website and it looks like MSTRKRFT and Santigold are not going to be at this show FUCK!!!!!!! but anyways check out my vids from SXSW and realize ONLY Matt and Kim, Major Lazer, and A-Trak have been announced for the Austin show. Which is still great I love Matt and Kim. Looks like show will be at the Austin Music Hall (Pollstar) or maybe just a Matt and Kim Spoon aftershow at Stubbs (Their Myspace).

(I just came across this today look who's coming to the July 10th. If you were lucky enough to be at MSTRKFRFT's SXSW showcase outside at Radio Room or had the balls to jump the fence and then later break it down. It was my favorite of SX check out my video of the Mounties clearing the alley next to the entrance. Also Matt and Kim's showcase was probably my number 2 of SX. Come on Santogold is on this bill, now I don't feel bad about skipping her Stubb's show for Camera Oscura at Antone's.)

So now I must choose Santogold or Camera Obscura.....

Friendly Fires

England's Friendly Fires have recently become one of my favorite new bands. I did miss them at SXSW though and it doesn't look good as they're only booked overseas and at Lolla, this summer. Their music is wonderful but these remixes add to it and Au Revoir Simone is on "Paris". Who will be here June 6th at Mohawk.

Röyksopp

You may remember their track Remind Me from the Geico commercial, but this pair from Norway have been around for over a decade. I just recently came across some of their tracks and remixes and have them currently in my daily playlist. They have a new album Junior out recently so maybe we'll get lucky with a US tour.

Here is a few of their tracks - Manners will be one of the top albums of the year. Very solid release
